Infinix GT Book Review: Best Budget Gaming Laptop

Infinix, a brand known for its affordable products, has stepped into the gaming laptop market with the Infinix GT Book. Priced starting at Rs. 59,990, this laptop promises to deliver a lot for its price. Featuring an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 GPU, a large 16-inch display, and some flashy RGB lighting, it's positioned as an enticing option for budget-conscious gamers. But does it live up to the hype? Let's dive in and find out.

Infinix GT Book Review: Variants and Pricing

The Infinix GT Book comes in three CPU+GPU configurations in India. The base model, priced at Rs. 59,990, has a 12th Gen Intel Core i5 12450H CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 GPU. The mid-tier option features a 13th Gen Intel Core i5 13420H and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 GPU, priced at Rs. 79,990. The top-tier variant, with a 13th Gen Intel Core i9 13900H CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060, is available for Rs. 99,990.

Available in two colour options, Mecha Gray and Mecha Silver, the laptop also includes a massive 210W charging brick and some limited-time bundled accessories like an RGB gaming mouse, RGB headphones, and an RGB mouse pad. However, the quality of the bundled headphones and mouse pad leaves much to be desired.

Design and Build Quality

The Infinix GT Book boasts a solid build quality, featuring an aluminium top and base plates with a plastic centre frame. The lid and bottom of the laptop show no signs of flex, contributing to its sturdy feel. Graphics on the lid highlight the design, referred to as the Cyber Mecha design, and the Infinix GT branding.

The laptop's bottom panel has an orange-coloured grille for intake vents and speakers, along with angled edges and an RGB strip at the back where the exhaust vents are located. The front has a single LED indicator for sleep/wake states. The laptop is quite portable, weighing 1.99 kg and measuring 19.9mm at its thickest point.

Connectivity options are ample, with the left side housing HDMI 2.0, a USB Type-A, and a USB Type-C port, along with the charging connector. The right side features another USB Type-C, USB Type-A, a 3.5mm headphone port, and an SD card reader.

Display Quality

The Infinix GT Book features a 16-inch anti-glare display with slim bezels, offering full HD resolution, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. It delivers 300 nits of brightness and covers 100% of the sRGB colour gamut. The display is bright enough for indoor use and offers a pleasant viewing experience. However, the response times are not the fastest, which can be noticeable during gaming sessions with some motion blur.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The laptop comes with a full-sized chiclet-style keyboard with 4-zone RGB lighting. The keys have decent travel and feedback, although the RGB backlight isn't very bright. The Control Center app allows for 4-zone customization. The WASD keys are accented, with three dedicated keys for performance modes.

The touchpad is decently sized, with a smooth surface and good click feedback. It supports multi-touch gestures and performs well overall.

Audio and Webcam

The dual bottom-firing speakers on the Infinix GT Book provide loud audio with some bass, though they can distort at full volume. The DTS app, enabled by default, helps enhance the sound quality of movies and games.

The full-HD webcam performs well in well-lit conditions, offering good image quality. In low light, there's a lot of noise, and the image clarity drops significantly. The dual microphones provide clear and crisp audio.

Specifications and Configurations

The laptop is available in three configurations:

  • Base model with 12th Gen Intel Core i5 12450H CPU, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 GPU, 16GB LPDDR5X RAM at 5200MHz, and 512GB SSD.
  • A mid-tier model with 13th Gen Intel Core i5 13420H CPU, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 GPU, 16GB LPDDR5X RAM at 5200MHz, and 512GB SSD.
  • Top-tier model with 13th Gen Intel Core i9 13900H CPU, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, 32GB LPDDR5X RAM at 6400MHz, and 1TB SSD.

The RAM is not upgradeable, but the SSD can be swapped for a larger one. The laptop supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 and runs Windows 11 Home out of the box with minimal pre-installed apps.

Performance and Gaming

We tested the base variant with the 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12450H CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 GPU. The GPU offers up to 80W TGP in Gaming mode, 65W in Performance mode, and 30W in Office mode. Benchmark results include:

  • Geekbench: 2095 (single-core), 8874 (multi-core)
  • PCMark 10: 5817 points
  • Steel Nomad 3DMark: 1086 points

In gaming tests, the laptop performed well for its price. Far Cry 6 delivered an average of 54 fps at full HD resolution, Ultra graphics, and 120Hz refresh rate. Hogwarts Legacy averaged about 70 fps at full HD resolution and Ultra graphics.

The laptop features a dual-fan, dual-heatpipe cooling setup that works efficiently, though the fans can get loud in Gaming mode. Prolonged gaming sessions can cause the top left area near the touchpad to get warm, which can be uncomfortable.

Battery Life

The 70 Whr battery in the Infinix GT Book offers about 4 to 5 hours of web browsing, YouTube, and streaming in Office mode. Gaming on battery provides 1 to 2 hours of usage, depending on the game. Charging the laptop from 9% to 100% takes over 2 hours with the 210W charger.

User Experience and Usability

For daily productivity tasks and some photo editing, the laptop performs smoothly without any lag or stutter. The 120Hz display enhances the experience with smooth scrolling through web pages.

Comparison with Competitors

In its price range, the Infinix GT Book competes with laptops like the Acer Nitro 5 and the HP Pavilion Gaming series. Compared to its competitors, the Infinix GT Book offers a better GPU in its base model, making it a compelling choice for budget gamers.

Customer Support and Warranty

Infinix provides a standard one-year warranty for the GT Book, with customer support accessible through their official website. The support experience is generally satisfactory, with timely responses and solutions to issues.
